{"id":467,"date":"2011-07-12T01:38:26","date_gmt":"2011-07-12T01:38:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.amatteroflifeandtech.com\/blog\/?p=467"},"modified":"2012-03-19T02:40:14","modified_gmt":"2012-03-19T02:40:14","slug":"techtrends-will-google-replace-facebook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amatteroflifeandtech.com\/blog\/tech-life\/techtrends-will-google-replace-facebook\/","title":{"rendered":"TechTrends:  Will Google+ replace Facebook?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amatteroflifeandtech.com\/blog\/tech-life\/techtrends-will-google-replace-facebook\/attachment\/google-plus-logo-640\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-476\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-476\" title=\"google-plus-logo-640\" src=\"http:\/\/www.amatteroflifeandtech.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/google-plus-logo-640-500x281.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.amatteroflifeandtech.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/google-plus-logo-640-500x281.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.amatteroflifeandtech.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/google-plus-logo-640.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Google&#8217;s second attempt at social networking, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/+\/learnmore\/\">Google+<\/a>, is being met with mixed reviews at best.\u00a0 Right now, it&#8217;s being field tested by a small number of users, with a full rollout expected soon.\u00a0 I happen to be one of those users, so here are my initial impressions of the latest social media\u00a0offering.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>For the most part, there aren&#8217;t enough extras to entice me away from Facebook right now.\u00a0 The main difference between the two\u00a0is that Google+ promises to make your social networking experience more personal.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/ocPeAdpe_A8\">Circles<\/a> allow you to group and categorize all of your friends, so that you only share info\/photos\/etc. with the folks you really want to share them with.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/Tku1vJeuzH4\">Hangouts<\/a> allow you to video\u00a0chat with multiple friends at once, one of the few features I\u00a0found to be really cool.\u00a0 But with Facebook just\u00a0recently partnering with Skype, that feature can&#8217;t be far behind.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/0DoAl4JXhQo\">Sparks<\/a> utilize Google&#8217;s powerful search engine to send you links\/updates\/info\u00a0on things you might be interested in, and folds in your friends recommendations as well.\u00a0 There&#8217;s also an element of Twitter, wherein you can &#8220;follow&#8221; posts of people you\u00a0may not know well, but whom you find interesting.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, there&#8217;s not enough there right now to make me jump ship, but I guess it&#8217;ll be like anything else &#8211; if Google is able to convince people that everyone else is doing it, it just may take off.\u00a0 But with most people already on multiple social networking sites already (I&#8217;m on four), that&#8217;ll\u00a0take some serious convincing!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;
